TEXT TO HASH
SHA-256 OUTPUT

Hashes UTF-8 text locally with Web Crypto. A hash is one-way and is not encryption or a substitute for password hashing.

How to generate a text hash

Select SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512, enter the text and choose Generate hash. The tool encodes the text as UTF-8 before computing the digest, then displays it as lowercase hexadecimal.

Hashing is not encryption

A cryptographic hash is a one-way digest, not a way to encrypt text and recover it later. Do not use a general-purpose SHA-2 hash alone to store passwords; password storage should use a dedicated, salted password-hashing algorithm.

Encode text for transport with the Base64 Converter, or format structured data with the JSON Formatter, or convert design color values with the Color Converter.
